Italy will host the brand new FEI event, the 2008 FEI World Reining Championship in Manerbio, Italy.
Teams from 20 nations will compete for World Championship medals September 11-14.  In past years, a World Reining Championship has only been offered during the FEI World Equestrian Games held every four years.  This year, teams will compete for the prestigious World Championship medals outside the WEG.

World Reining Championships 2008
September 11 -14, 2008 competition in Manerbio, Italy.

The newest addition to the international reining scene, the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) World Reining Championships, is showing a world of support, literally. Twenty countries from four continents are entered to compete in the September 11 -14, 2008 competition in Manerbio, Italy.
Teams and individuals from these countries are to compete in the inaugural World Championships, a brand new event hosted by the FEI. In the past, a World Reining Championship only has been offered during the FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) which is held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic games.
This year, international reiners will compete for the prestigious World Championship gold, silver and bronze FEI medals outside of the WEG at their stand-alone reining event. Organizers anticipate 20,000 horse enthusiasts to be in attendance to see history in the making.
The countries with FEI National Federations that are anticipated to compete include:

Australia
Austria
Belgium
Brazil
Canada
France
Germany
Great Britain
Italy
Poland
Spain
Switzerland
The Netherlands
U.S.A.
Those countries that are in the process of having their riders qualified for the competition are:
Czech Republic
Norway
Santo Domingo
South Africa
Slovakia
Sweden
The FEI is the international body governing equestrian sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. It is the sole controlling authority for all international events in Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Vaulting, Reining and Para-Equestrian.
Reining has gained significant ground in its move to being the next equestrian sport added to the Olympic Games. FEI-approved reining competitions started in 2001 making the Sport the only western discipline of riding approved by the organization. For the first time ever in the history of equestrian sports, the FEI welcomed Team and Individual Reining Competition to the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games.

British Equestrian Federation says “Thank You” to Volunteers

BEF
Peter Lane, British Reining Chairman,
chatting to H.R.H. The Duchess of Cornwall.

On Wednesday 28th May HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron of the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) kindly hosted a reception for volunteers from across the Equestrian industry at Clarence House, London.

The reception was a thank you to all those who give so much of their time. Many of those who attended the reception give their time and talents freely to serve on the executive boards, councils and committees of the BEF and its sixteen Member Bodies.  Others give their time and expertise on a regular basis to represent the BEF and Member Bodies at grass roots level in the regions and many officiate at affiliated shows and events nationwide.

The reception was held in the beautiful surroundings of Clarence House, with the kind permission of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. The house was built between 1825 and 1827 to the designs of John Nash for Prince William Henry, Duke of Clarence. It was the London home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother from 1953 until 2002 and has also been the home of The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, and The Duke of Edinburgh. Today Clarence House is the official London residence of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

Dear Member

Thanks to the support of many members, the British Reining Spring Show was an excellent start to the 2008 competition season.

Many thanks to all those who attended and helped at the show. Particularly the one-and-only Ring Steward, Janet Burwood, who, as well as collecting and entertaining the judge,  worked non-stop throughout Saturday and Sunday managing to keep competitors under firm control,  and everyone in the right place at the right time!

Thanks also to our commentator Peter Bernand, who has been a member of British Reining for many years and made his debut as a commentator at this show.

Thanks again to Jane Muir, who was Show Secretary. Jane is now recording all BR points and is also issuing Competition licences and FEI passports. She is a invaluable member of the B.R. Show Team!

And last, but not least, our Sponsors. Without their generous sponsorships we could not hold BR shows.

The Green-as-Grass and Rookie clinic was oversubscribed but David managed to accommodate everybody in the end.

It is encouraging to have so many new riders joining BR and competing in the first show. Thanks everybody!

Peter Lane

Chairman

The British Reining Championship Show 6th and 7th October 2007
Which was held at Horse Creek Farm, March, Cambridgeshire.
The home of Sovereign Quarter Horses.

David Deptford promised us that the weather would be good for the first weekend in October, as this is traditionally a good weekend in the Fens.  He certainly was right and we had three good days of ideal riding weather.

On the Friday before the show a Pre-show clinic was held, especially for rookie and green as grass level riders. The clinic was full, with twelve participants and it seemed that they all learned a lot and picked up some tips from David, judging by the show results over the weekend.

On Saturday the day began with the sun rising promisingly over the windmills and the show commenced at 7.30am with paid-warm-ups. . These continued until 9am when classes began. As the commentator let us down at the last minute a variety of voices were heard over the mike as David, Peter Camilla and Kaaren all did a stint in the commentators box. David excelled in his role of commentator and enjoyed winding up his fellow open riders! All committee members were there in force to ensure the show ran smoothly. Carol Gatt worked gallantly as ring steward for both days and also presented the rosettes and prizes.. She was ably assisted by husband Mike, who did a sterling job on the gate. The emphasis on the Saturday was for green as grass riders and rookies, and during the day we held four classes with warm-ups before the classes for these competitors only.  There were always experienced riders on hand to help and give advice where needed.  Eleven classes in total were held on the Saturday and all were well supported and we did not finish until it was almost dark.

As promised by David (!) Sunday again proved to be a perfect day for the Championship.
There was a full slate of nine championship classes, starting with BR Green as grass and finishing with BR open.
Because the AQHA UK reining championship could not be held at The Hand equestrian Centre, four AQHA classes were held over Saturday and Sunday.  AQHA UK kindly donated all entry fees and also a further £200 to help towards the running costs of the show.

The smooth running of the show was guaranteed by having the trusty Jane Muir as Show secretary, who as everyone knows has been known to get stressed by incompetence of fellow organisers.  However this time she remained jovial and relaxed, enjoying the calm and convivial atmosphere at the show. (At times it MAY not have seemed to be quite as smooth running as it appeared…)

This show was the first time the British Reining Trailer was used. The trailer had been completely renovated to an extremely high standard by David Brimson, who was a coach builder in a previous life. David was still working on it right up the show and the only last minute hitch was signwriting of the BR Logo but that will be finished on its next outing.  The main use of the trailer this time was to display the new BR Merchandise which ranges from hats, polo shirts, hoodies etc. along side “unusual” items such as Reiner’s Knickers! All ideal Christmas presents. Watch the Website for details of ordering these items, as we will be operating a mail order service.
The show could not have run without the generous sponsorship from nearly 20 people. This varied from sponsorship of individual classes to the cost of rosettes Also there were vouchers from the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, alongside  vouchers and prizes from the supporting Trade stands.

And last but not least we have to thank the Judge, Ferry De Moore from Holland, and his right hand man, Mick Carder, who is a well known and popular face at the shows. Also, Adam Heaton for acting as Bit and Tail judge, another well known and trusty supporter of British Reining.

Our only hitch…
Prizes for the Championship Classes were Director’s Chairs with the  backs  individualy printed for the winner of each category. Unfortunately the chairs arrived but the backs, (the vital bits) did not arrive until later despite, being ordered in September and sent by “Special Delivery” We can only blame the postal strike. They have now arrived and will be sent out to the winners this week.

And finally British Reining Council wishes to thank David and Sarah Deptford for hosting the show and to all British Reining members who supported the show. This was probably the best turn out of all British Reining shows, and the friendly and competitive atmosphere made a great finish to the 2007 Reining season.
