Team for the World Equestrian Games 2010

British Reining have today announced their selection for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010.
The selected team comprises:
Adam Heaton, Reining Chef d’Equipe said on the team selection:
“Following our Bronze medal at the European Championships last year, I am thrilled to be taking such a talented team of riders out to the World Equestrian Games. The progress that the team has made over the past four years is in no small part down to the commitment that British Reining Council has shown to the team and I thank them for selecting such a strong and well-balanced team.”
The horses competing in the reining competition will be confirmed in due course.

Francesca Sternberg
Originally from a background of Eventing, Show horses and Jumpers, Francesca has made her mark in the world of Western Riding.
With multiple AQHA European Champion titles, Francesca has placed or been in the Top Ten in almost every major Reining event, worldwide. Becoming the first European lady rider to break the $100,000 earnings barrier, Francesca is now nearing the next level of $200,000. She has represented Great Britain at virtually every team event since 2000, where she demonstrated Reining at the Rome WEG. Notable achievements include 3rd Place a the AQHA World Championships, Individual Finalist at the 2006 WEG, placing 11th, 4th place in the Individual at the FEI European Championships 2008, and 4th at the FEI World Masters in Oklahoma City 2009. This year has started well for Francesca with top ten finishes at the European Futurity and making the finals at the NRBC in Houston, Texas. Francesca lives in Kent with her husband Doug Allen and children Tabitha and George, who she notes as her greatest achievements to date.

Doug Allen
Doug was born in Springer, New Mexico, raised in Scott City, Kansas, and now lives in Sandhurst, Kent.
A professional horse trainer for the last 35 years, Doug started his career training Western Pleasure and Roping horses with his father, the renowned World Champion Billy Allen.
In 1989 he moved to Bodiam, East Sussex and became the trainer at Sterling Quarter Horses. Over the next ten years he trained and showed well over 100 European Champions for himself and for his amateur customers, in every discipline offered.
In 1999 he began to specialize in reining exclusively. He has been a member of the British Team at the first two World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain and Aachen, Germany. He was on the national team at the 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 FEI European Championships, and was on the Bronze medal winning team at the 2009 European Championships in Kreuth, Germany. He has represented Great Britain at five World Reining Masters. In 2008 and 2009 he was European Champion at the AQHA European Championships in Kreuth, Germany.
Doug is married to fellow team member Francesca Sternberg and the have 2 children, Tabitha (12) and George (9).

Tammy Greaves
22 yr old Tammy Greaves has a long record of western riding successes since achieving AQHA International Youth Rookie Rider in 2001. Tammy represented Great Britain as a member of the AQHA Youth World Cup Teams in Amarillo, USA during 2002 and 2006 and in Australia in 2004, and has enjoyed numerous reining wins whilst competing widely across Europe during subsequent years.
Tammy became NRHA European Youth Reining Champion in Austria in 2007, going on to compete on the British Team at the FEI European Reining Championships firstly at Mooslargue, Switzerland later that year, and then as a member of the Bronze Medal winning team at Kreuth, Germany in 2009. Tammy was also a proud member of the British Team that came fourth at the very first FEI World Reining Championships at Manerbio in Italy in 2008.
For the 2009-10 season Tammy was Hi Point Non Pro Rider in Belgium, 1st and 2nd in the UK European Affiliate Non Pro Standings, with her palomino stallion ‘Jac Wonders Who’, was 5th in the Non Pro World Standings and 1st in the European Intermediate Non Pro Standings with ’The Magic of Whizz’.

Lee Rutter
Lee is the head trainer at the Oakridge Quarter Horses facility in Collingham Nr Newark, and made his very successful debut for the British Reining Team at the NRHA European championships in 2009 at Kreuth Germany. Lee had a super run on the bay stallion ‘Santa Cruz Whiz’ marking the team high score and helping secure the bronze medal for team GB.
Lee has ridden western all of his life and actually represented Great Britain as a youth rider bringing home ‘Gold’ from Amarillo, Texas back in 1998. He has shown and trained in all the western disciplines, with numerous wins and championship titles over the years, and since 2007 has secured AQHA UK senior Championship titles in western pleasure, trail and reining, and won 2008 and 2009 British Reining Championship titles in the Open divisions. He was also the 2009 UK CRI Reserve Champion, and in April 2010 won the UK CRI Champion and Reserve Champion at Bodiam, East Sussex.
Lee and his partner Becky have two children, son Jay 3yrs and daughter Kaia 1yr, and together with the children enjoy time with the family, their mini shetlands and golden retriever ‘Daisy’. Lee also enjoys country music, cooking and gardening.

Jessica Sternberg
Jessica Sternberg has risen rapidly through the ranks of All Around Youth competitor from winning Rookie of the Year Award in 2005 to Reserve European Champion in Horsemanship in 2007. Rapidly moving on to NRHA European Affiliate Champion in Limited NonPro and Reserve Affiliate Champion in Limited Open last year, as well as 5th place in the first FEI Young Rider CRIO competition in Kreuth.
After getting two horses to the final at the 2009 AQHA Youth World Championships, she ended up placing 6th. This year she was a Finalist in all Non Pro Divisions at the prestigeous NRBC Derby in Katy, Texas, also winning an Intermediate Non Pro Class.
She is the daughter of leading Reining horse breeder Rosanne Sternberg and in between competitions studies Business Management at the University of London, Holloway.
